What an absolutely stunning book.

Thora has gone one hundred and twenty seven days without sleep. She has been forced to live in a sleep clinic, where each day she must live in a sleep clinic, and each day be subjected to the tests and therapy sessions. She suffers through these rituals night after night but the doctors never do anything to cure her disease. Desperate to find answers and a cure for her insomnia, Thora escapes the clinic and delves into New York City, searching for the elusive  Insomniacs’ Café – a place where insomniacs can find security, and sleep. But not everyone wants Thora to reach the Insomniacs’ Café, and with danger at ever turn, will she uncover the clues and find the answers she so desperately needs?

Welcome to my stop on the Never Sleep blog tour, run by the lovely Xpresso Book Tours. I want to say right off the bat that I loved this book, it was exciting and mysterious and is possibly now one of my favourite books. The story is something I’ve never come across before. It kept my entertained the whole way through and I kept finding myself wanting to return to it, to find out what happening.

This is my first time reading a book by Cady Vance, and it’s an absolutely fabulous one. It’s tense, fraught with danger and flows really well. It’s fascinating and is just an absolute pleasure to read. I really liked Thora, she felt like a real girl – dealing with her parents lack of love for her, dealing with her condition and her desperation for answers. I found the book really engrossing, insomnia isn’t something I know much about, so I really liked the little sentences at the start of each chapter from the “Chronic Insomnia Handbook” it made the story feel really realistic and intense.

The story is set in New York, and Vance paints a wonderful picture of the city. Having only visited once it is a city I am fascinated with, and I love the idea of it being the city that never sleeps, that has the cure for insomnia. I also really liked the Sleepers – the faceless enemy that is trying to round up the insomniacs.

I really loved this book, it’s definitely worth picking up. It’s four hundred pages, but I flew through it, the story is so gripping and intense. The one thing that bugged me is Lucas is frequently referred to as having a British accent, and being from the UK – there is no such thing. There are tons of accents that make up the cities in the UK. Don’t let that detract from how awesome this book is though, it’s a truly riveting read!

Cady Vance has been kind enough to run a give away during this blog tour, so to be in with a chance of winning a paperback copy of the book and a dreaming of New York sleep mask, enter here!
