This week I’ll be taking part in the Top Ten Tuesday meme as hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
This week’s topic is “Top 10 YA authors of all time” so here goes!
1. Garth Nix
Author Of: Sabriel, Across the Wall, A Confusion of Princes, Shade’s Children.
Garth Nix’s books have fascinated me since I was a little girl, and have continued to do so years later. His Abhorsen series continues to be one of my favourite series of all time, and I don’t think I’ve ever read a book by him that I didn’t love. They’re clever, exciting and always full of magic and mystery.
2. Cate Tiernan
Author Of: The Sweep Series, Immortal Beloved, Darkest Fear.
Cate Tiernan is an author I feel everyone should love and everyone should read, but sadly her books are very underrated. They mostly focus on witches, but there’s always romance, drama, action and magic scattered through her books. I’ve read the Sweep series more times than I can count, and I absolutely don’t doubt that I’ll read it again.
3. Maria V. Snyder
Author Of: Inside Out, Poison Study, Shadow Study, Touch of Power.
I’m beginning to see a trend in fantasy young adult authors here, but they are my most favourite. Someone recommended Poison Study to me a while ago, and instantly I was hooked. I devoured all the books in the Study series along with several other of Maria V. Snyder’s books. Now I’m eagerly awaiting the end of the semester so I can dive into her new book, Shadow Study!
4. Sarah J. Maas
Author of: Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, A Court of Thorns and Roses.
I think Sarah J. Maas will be on the majority of people’s lists. Her books are fantastic, and so far I don’t think I’ve come across someone who doesn’t love Celaena Sardothien. I’m a little behind in the series right now, I still have Heir of Fire to read, but I really can’t wait to get my teeth sunk into it, I’ve heard so many great things about book three. It’s such a fantastic series and if you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, I definitely recommend it.
5. Leigh Bardugo
Author Of: Shadow and Bone, Seige and Storm, Ruin and Rising.
Need I say anything here? The Grisha series is fantastic. Set in a fantasy world similar to Russia, its full of magic, darkness, betrayal, love and everything else in between. It ticks every box, and will definitely have you hooked if you haven’t picked it up already.
6. Cassandra Clare
Author Of: City of Bones, The Bane Chronicles, Clockwork Princess.
I love Cassandra Clare. I’ve met her twice and she was lovely both times, her books are fantastic and they always leave me wanting more. I’m so looking forward to the Shadowhunters TV series, here’s hoping it’s better than the City of Bones movie!
7. Addison Moore
Author Of: Ethereal, Toxic, Burn, Wicked, Someone to Love.
Addison Moore’s Celestra series was one of the first Young Adult series that I absolutely adored. Angels, demons, time travelling and every book ended with a plot twist that hits you like a freight train. Addison also writes contemporary new adult books, which I myself haven’t read yet, but if the Celestra series is anything to go by I think they’ll be fantastic.
8. Joe Abercrombie
Author Of: Half a King, Half the World, The Blade Itself.
I tossed up with adding Joe Abercrombie to this list, the majority of his books I wouldn’t class as young adult. But his newest series The Shattered Sea, is a young adult trilogy, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to add his books. Joe Abercrombie is one of my favourite authors of all time. I adore his books, they’re all high fantasy, have loads going on, fantastic characters and a good bit of humour too. Definitely check out Half a King, it’s like a young adult Game of Thrones!
9. Neil Gaiman
Author Of: Ocean at the End of the Lane, American Gods, Stardust.
Who doesn’t love Neil Gaiman? He has tons of books, so there is definitely something for everybody. American Gods has got to be my absolute favourite of all the books he’s written, but with the amount of books he releases, that’s always open to change.
10. Veronica Roth
Author Of: Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant.
My final choice has got to be Veronica Roth, because Divergent is just such a fantastic series. I love the books and everything about them. I can plough through them in a few days because they’re just so exciting and enjoyable. I look forward to more books from her in the future!
So those are my top 10 young adult authors! Who are your top 10? Do you have any of the same authors on your list? Let me know!
