Mirror Mirror hear my call…

Leah is the daughter of one of the most powerful lords in the realm, problem is she’s illegitimate. She’s hot blooded – meaning she can communicate with the fire gods, and call upon their powers. Then she discovers she has even more abilities than she thought, Leah is a Caller – meaning she can call her otherselves from the mirror worlds. When her father learns of her abilities he will stop at absolutely nothing to use them. In the Water world Holly almost drowns interacting her Leah – her mirror self. As the lives of the two girls begin to intertwine the fire and world begin to fall into darkness. The only way they can protect the realms is to break every rule they’ve ever known…

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Through Fire & Sea, run by the lovely YA Bound Book Tours. This book is an emotional roller-coaster! It was a little slow to start with, but I found myself getting more and more attached to the characters as the story developed. The characters are really likeable, and I really enjoyed seeing how their story would develop, and how the lives of Holly and Leah intersect. Ryan is also a pretty intriguing character – who I won’t say too much about, but the characters all provide a very interesting mix to the story. They’re realistic and full of depth.

The world building is quite complex, there is the true world as well as four mirror worlds. I found this really interesting though as it was something different and it reminded in the vaguest sense of Philip Pullman’s Dark Materials Trilogy, with all the different worlds. I really enjoyed learning about the different realms and how they operate, and it really makes me look forward to book two to see how they develop.

The story flows at quite a quick pace one you get into it, after the first few chapters it is easy to immerse yourself in the story. I loved the magic and elemental parts of the story. It was an enjoyable read and the two different points of view are really interesting in the story because it allows you to see so much more. Even though Holly and Leah are the same person, they are totally different in almost every single way. If you’re a Young Adult fan, you’re going to love this series – it has magic, mystery, danger and romance. What more could you possibly need?

That concludes my stop on the Through Fire & Sea tour! Make sure to check out the rest of the stops too! Nicole Luiken has also been kind enough to host a giveaway for the tour – which features a Drogon from Game of Thrones pop figure, bookmarks AND a giftcard! Enter here!
