Synopsis
Lemon Fresh has seen better days.
After the climactic battle in Babel, she finds herself separated from Ezekiel and Cricket in the wastelands. Lemon’s abilities to manipulate electricity mark her as a deviate, and deadly corporate operatives are hunting her to use as a weapon in the war between BioMaas Incorporated and Daedelus Technologies. Instead, Lemon finds herself falling in with a group of fellow deviates—a band of teenagers with astonishing abilities, led by an enigmatic figure known as the Major, who may hold the secrets to Lemon’s past.
Meanwhile, Cricket finds himself in possession of the puritanical Brotherhood, a religious cult set for a head-on collision with the Major and his band. Searching for Lemon, Ezekiel finds a strange ally in an old enemy, and uncovers a plot that may see him reunited with his beloved Ana.
And inside Babel, a remade Eve hatches a plan to bring an end to the world.
Thoughts
This week for Waiting on Wednesday I thought I would talk about a release I’m really looking forward to, which is Dev1at3 by Jay Kristoff. This is the second instalment in the Lifelik3 series, and I really enjoyed the first book. It’s a fun and action packed science fiction tale, and I really loved the mix of action and sassy characters. I’m super excited to read Dev1at3 as this time around we follow a different character – Lemon Fresh, who was my absolute favourite in book one. The book has been released pretty much everywhere except the UK, so I’ve seen plenty of positive reviews (and I’m also super jealous that everyone else has got to read it already). They’ve also changed the cover art which I’m a little annoyed about, I definitely preferred the original covers. Despite that I’m excited to see what this next instalment will bring and I’m sure it will be full of Jay Kristoff’s trademark wit and style. Dev1at3 is publishing October 3rd 2019 from HarperVoyager.
This waiting on Wednesday I thought I would talk about Here There Are Monsters, which really caught my eye recently and I’m so excited to pick it up! The cover really caught my eye and when I saw the comparison to The Blair Witch project I was pretty much sold. It sounds like a really fascinating story about sisterhood and I love a good horror novel. I haven’t read anything by this author but she also has another book called The Death Beneath the Ice that also sounds really intriguing, so I might pick that up to get a feel for her writing. I’ve seen some kind of mixed reviews for Here There Are Monsters already, some saying they were kind of disappointed with it but I’m excited to give the book a go and find out for myself if it’s worth the wait. 
I CANNOT WAIT TO READ THIS BOOK. Garth Nix is definitely an author that I don’t talk about enough on this blog – but that’s all going to change now. I’d pretty much credit Garth Nix and J.K. Rowling with my love of reading. I read the Abhorsen Series when I was young and that pretty much started my life long love with fantasy. Shade’s Children is one of my absolute favourite books and I’ve read Sabriel so many times my copy is barely still in one piece. I’ve been lucky enough to have been to a couple of signings that Garth Nix has done and he was always lovely and my signed copies are some of my most prized possessions. I’m so excited to read his first take on adult fantasy and this story just sounds brilliant. This has definitely become one of my most anticipated releases for 2019 and I’m obsessed with the cover.

This is a book I’m looking forward to so much. For a long time Margaret Atwood was an author that I knew of but had never read before. While I was at University one of our modules included The Handmaid’s Tale and I became completely engrossed in the story. I’ve read it a few times and still to think day it blows me away. Since then I’ve read a number of her books and I’ve loved every single one. The ending of The Handmaid’s Tale definitely left me wanting more and I’m so intrigued to find out what’s going to happen in Gilead fifteen years after the events of the first book. The Handmaid’s Tale is one of those books I recommend to everyone, it’s such a brilliant piece of writing. The story is incredibly dark and I honestly have no idea what’s going to happen next, but I’m sure it will be an unputdownable read. 
Today for Waiting on Wednesday I wanted to talk about Queen of Nothing by Holly Black – the third and final book in the Folk of the Air trilogy. I had planned to leave this one until later in the year because the book was due for release in 2020. However with the update that Queen of Nothing has been brought forward for a November release – I couldn’t help but get excited that we are only a few short months away from the conclusion of this series. With the exception of reading The Spiderwick Chronicles as a kid I’ve never read anything by Holly Black until I picked up The Cruel Prince but I absolutely fell in love with her writing style and the magnificent world that she’s built. I know The Cruel Prince has a lot of divided opinions but it is honestly one of my favourite series. I’m sad that it’s going to be the last book but I’m dying to know what’s going to happen next. The first two books have ended on major cliffhangers so I have no idea how it will all turn out. This series is full to the brim with magic, betrayal and the best characters. If you haven’t picked it up yet I’d definitely recommend binging the first two books in the series. 
I am so excited to read this book. I’ve read two books by Kiran Milwood Hargrave before – The Girl of Ink and Stars and The Way Past Winter – and I adored them both. When I heard she had a new book coming out I was really interested and then I saw that the book was an imagined untold story of the brides of Dracula. Where do I sign up? Dracula is one of my all time favourite books and I love reading new versions of the tale or untold stories like this one. Kiran Milwood Hargrave has such a gorgeous writing style and I’m so excited to see where she takes this story. Her previous books have been middle grade so I’m looking forward to seeing her first book for a YA audience. I’ve requested an ARC of this on Netgalley and I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that I get approved because I really can’t wait to read this one. 
am DYING to read this book. It sounds incredible. We Hunt the Flame is the debut novel from Hafsah Faizal and the first in the Sands of Arawiya series. Just from reading the synopsis I was completely sucked in and I so wish this book was out already. I definitely think it’s going to be filled to the brim with magic, adventure and excitement. I love that its inspired by ancient Arabia and the book has already been getting so much buzz on Twitter. I’ve seen several five star reviews from bloggers (I’m so jealous they got to read it already) and I am pretty obsessed with the stunning cover. Over the past few weeks I’ve found myself picking up and putting back down loads of fantasy books that I was really looking forward to reading so I’m hoping this will be the book to turn that around! We Hunt the Flame is publishing May 14th 2019 from Farrar, Straus and Giroux, so we only have a few weeks to wait before we can dive into this gorgeous fantasy book.
I am honestly desperate to get my hands on this book. I read Blackwing – the first book in the Raven’s Mark series and I gave it five stars and it was on my favourite books of 2017 list. I then read Ravencry last year, it also got five stars and made my top books of 2018. It also made me cry and I really became attached to the wonderful characters in this unique and gripping fantasy series. Crowfall is the third and final book in the series and while I’m so sad that the series will be over I am just dying to know if my favourite characters are going to make it through. This series is so fast paced and intense and I just love returning to the world that Ed McDonald has created. I was lucky enough to meet Ed at YALC in 2017 and 2018 and my signed copies have pride of place on my favourites shelf. I’ve already pre-ordered Crowfall and it is without a doubt one of my most anticipated releases of 2019. Welcome to another Waiting on Wednesday! This week I thought I would talk about a book I’m really excited for – Bloodchild by Anna Stephens. This is the third and final book in the Godblind trilogy. The Godblind trilogy is a dark and gritty grimdark fantasy series filled with fascinating characters, dark magic and brutal characters. I won’t say much about the plot because I definitely don’t want to spoil the first two books in the series, but this is honestly one of my all time favourite trilogies. Book one Godblind was on my best books of 2017 and book two Darksoul was on my best books of 2018. I’m so sad that this will be the final book in the series because I’m definitely not ready to say goodbye to the characters I’ve gotten attached to and I’m also scared they aren’t going to make it to the end. Anna Stephens’ writing is just so addictive. These aren’t exactly short books and I absolutely raced through them because I couldn’t get enough. If you’re a fan of epic, bloody battles, merciless gods and some wonderful characters you definitely need to check this series out before the final book is published.
